Echoes of the Past: The Castle of Shadows is the second part of this fascinating puzzle adventure game by Orneon. In this occasion, the story immerses you into the mysteries surrounding a royal family, to investigate a couple of objects found in a recent research; a picture and part of a powerful amulet. A legend said the royal family had been cursed by a witch until someone with the help of the amulet could break the spell. The amulet remained guarded in the royal house but after an incident it was shattered into pieces and scattered all over the kingdom. So, it is your task to collect the lost pieces and prevent the evil witch from finding it.
During the game you will be going through dark and mysterious locations completing a number of tasks while looking for the pieces to restore the amulet. The game features a complex, deep gameplay and with lost of details to take into account, so to provide you some help there is a Journal that narrates every step of the storyline and also lists the tasks you need to complete along the way. The game mechanism consists in exploring scenes thoroughly, paying special attention to sparkles and glowing areas as these indicate a task, which can be finding a specific item, solving a hidden object scene, playing a mini puzzle, or using items in your inventory to complete an assignment. You can navigate through the different parts of the location with the arrows you see on screen, but some areas will remain locked until you complete a certain task.
As it usually happens in this type of games, you may find yourself stuck in some parts not knowing how to get out of a place or what to do with the objects found, and this can be quite frustrating. So you need to be very alert to all details and revisit scenes several times until you find out what to do.
The game features different game modes for both, regular and advanced players. Graphics are awesome and there is some suspenseful music that accompanies the game marvelously.
